Over the years the colour of the sun fades from yellow to grey, therefore needs maintaining. The last time it was painted was in 2009. Scaffolding was used in the past to paint the sun. The sun is due to be painted again but due to health and safety regulations the sun has to be lowered onto the ground and painted and then lifted back up into place.
The scaffolding has been erected around the sun.
