Underground drawings: Karl Jarrett, artist and miner

Karl Jarratt worked underground as a miner in the Selby coalfield at the Whitemoor mine. As cameras were forbidden for safety reasons he would take down an sketch book and recorded dozens of scenes of working life down the pit. This is just a small sample.

If you want to know more about Karl’s life as a miner go to the Selby Superpit website https://selbycoalfield.home.blog/ or Google Selby Superpit. This site has a wealth of articles about the Selby Coalfield.
