Russell Jones, who now lives in Riccall, was born into a mining family who moved from Lancashire to Barnsley. After leaving school he too became a miner and his career followed a succession of mines as one by one they were closed down. He now commutes to work in York.
This interview starts with an account of his career before Russell moves on to talk about the miners’ strike, wages, working at the Selby pit and moving from a mining village near Barnsley to rural North Yorkshire.
