All the coal extracted from the Selby coalfield was taken out via the Gascoigne Wood railhead. A number of access mine shafts were located nearer the coal faces but these were only used for access for mine-workers and their equipment.
When the creation of the Selby Coalfield was given planning permission it was a condition that, upon completion, the mine sites would revert to agricultural use. This has notĀ happened and in some cases, the pithead building has fallen into dereliction while others have been re-born as industrial or warehousing sites.
Below are slides from a PowerPoint presentation of 34 photographs of the various sites as they stand in 2018.
